Eligibility

Upward Bound seeks students with high academic ambitions who aspire to apply, attend, and graduate from college.

Students must meet the following requirements

  • United States citizen or permanent U.S. resident
  • First-generation, meaning high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree
  • Federal income guidelines
  • 2.0 GPA or higher

Must be enrolled in one of the following high schools

  • Augustus Hawkins High School
  • Crenshaw High School
  • Fremont High School
  • Jefferson High School
  • Jordan High School
  • Los Angeles High School
  • Manual Arts High School
  • Santee High School
  • Susan Miller Dorsey High School
  • Washington Preparatory High School
  • West Adams High School

A Holistic Approach

 

Like many highly selective pre-college programs, we conduct a comprehensive, holistic review of all applicants. Beyond eligibility requirements, we also consider the personal qualities of a student, through an interview and written personal statement.
